This is a front side view of the first large Steam Launch that I built on this type of fibreglass hull.
This boat was fitted with a "Cheddar Models Proteus" steam plant & a Futaba radio control system. The steam launch also had a working radio controlled chime whistle & radio controlled gas shutoff valve. Subsequent steam launches were built in a slightly different way. On this launch the wooden coaming around the inside of the deck was built by using just three long pieces of Mahogany strip. On subsequent steam launches, I used laminated planking for greater strength & better appearance. I sailed the boat many times & it always performed very well, but I felt the the "Proteus" steam plant was more suited to 1/12th scale models & not 1/6th scale like this one. This model took many months to complete, as I was experimenting & finding the best approach to hand building a substantial model steam launch within a reasonable time period. The bow cleats that hold the front fender were machined & finished by hand. This took far too long to be practical, so on every model steam launch built after this one, I used the same type as the other ones on the boat, which are easier (and quicker) to manufacture.
