Our condenser/oil traps are a very useful fitting for any model steam plant, the condenser prevents water from gurgling up the boiler's chimney & keeps the surrounding area free of steam oil residue. They are an absolutely essential fitting for a model steam boat, the purpose of the condenser is to trap the oil & steam mixture as it exhausts from the engine. Without a condenser, the engine exhaust will contaminate the surface of water on which you sail, which is not acceptable. The exhaust steam & oil enters the condenser where it settles, clean steam then goes up the chimney or exhaust pipe.
The oil & water mixture then can be drained when full, by simply opening the drain tap & running the engine. This will pump out the water into a suitable container for safe disposal later. Our condensers are of silver soldered construction, clad in mahogany strip with brass banding. We can also supply the condensers in a plain black painted finish, or even just polished if required. The condensers shown below are of the twin tap type, one tap is the drain, the other closes steam off to the chimney allowing the subsequent pressure to pump out the water. Our current range of condensers are supplied with a single drain tap fitted, as exhaust back pressure is usually sufficient to pump out the condensate. Suitable copper piping with fittings can also be supplied for individual installations.
Our condensers are available fully assembled - Unclad but ready to go - or in easy assembly kit form.
